Sunday 5th September saw 2 of our improver players represent our club, at St. Neots 2-star competition. It was their first ever ranking competition, after having made massive improvements during lockdown. With it being one of the first competitions of the season since lockdown, there were lots of strong players participating.
Harry Hollingsworth played in the Cadet boys singles and showed great fighting spirit and a positive attitude on the table. You could tell that he loved being in a competition environment, which was great to see. Harry played well against the players in his group but unfortunately lost during the first round of the cadet mixed consolation knockout round. We’re sure to see Harry competing at many other competitions throughout the season.
Martha Wild was competing in both the Cadet Girls singles and the Under 13 Girls singles. As the day went on, Martha grew in confidence and it was clear to see the improvements she had made, even whilst at the competition, compared to the start of the day. Martha had a tough first group in the Cadet Girls event before winning her first round in the mixed consolation and then going out in the following round. In the under 13 girls, Martha played well in her group making it through into the semi-final, where she then unfortunately lost to Eva Eccles (Ranked No4 in Under 13 Girls in England).
Both players came away from the day having learned a lot about competitions and are already looking forward to their next one.
